Taking the ferry to one of Gothenburg’s islands Taking the ferry to one of Gothenburg’s islands

📍 🇸🇪 Gothenburg, Sweden

For the same price as a bus, tram, or train, here in Gothenburg, you can hop on a ferry and explore one of the lovely islands of the archipelago, just a few minutes’ journey from the shore. Or, stay on all day and just enjoy the water, I guess! 🌊

It’s so good to be back in Gothenburg! Although It’s so good to be back in Gothenburg! Although it feels like I was barely home for a day before flying back 😲

Here’s a random collection of tram journeys around the city, featuring the Stenpiren, Brunnsparken, Järntorget and Korsvägen areas 🚃
Photos from a recent (windy) visit to Runswick Bay Photos from a recent (windy) visit to Runswick Bay near Whitby (UK). It’s a picturesque stretch of sandy coast, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and a quaint little village. As well as the beach and the town, it’s on the Cleveland Way walking path, and also known for its fossils, making it a popular place for fossil hunters to search among the stones.
📍 🇬🇧 Knaresborough, North Yorkshire Join 📍 🇬🇧 Knaresborough, North Yorkshire

Join me for a New Year’s Day breakfast in my hometown! Clearly everyone in town had the same idea, so it was nice and busy, which is lovely to see. The crag shields waterside somewhat, but it was actually a gloriously sunny day.

Weekends in Knaresborough are popular with walkers, especially with dogs, runners, cyclists, families, couples…basically everyone! And if you’re out walking and need a spot of food, we’ve got tons to keep you happy!

My trip home was too short and it was difficult to tear myself away and go back to Sweden, but rest assured in the summer I’ll be sharing lots of information about this unique destination!

🍳 For the best breakfast sandwiches or cooked breakfast, we went to the Riverside Cafe on Waterside. They do nice drinks too, and sometimes freshly squeezed orange juice. Enjoy a warm welcome here from the lovely owners.

🛶 Further down is Marigold’s cafe, serving food and drinks with both indoor and outdoor seating on multiple levels, so you can really be next to the river! They also hire out Knaresborough’s famous rowing boats.

🌳 Opposite Marigold’s is the Black Mulberry, so-called after the tree in the garden of the Old Manor House, supposedly planted in 1608. Walk further along to the black and white chequered house and read the blue plaque!
🎄 home for Christmas 🎄 It was a tedious jo 🎄 home for Christmas 🎄

It was a tedious journey, but it’s over now and it’s so lovely to be back in my hometown for a cosy family Christmas 💜 not pictured: numerous disappointing snacks, packed flights, and my mum and I hugging for approximately 35 minutes

I’ll be taking a couple of days away from Instagram and returning on the 26th for a “12 days of 2022” recap :)

In the meantime I wish everyone a very happy and healthy Christmas
🎄 Christmas in Gothenburg! 🎁 Christmas is 🎄 Christmas in Gothenburg! 🎁

Christmas is approaching and the city is cosier than ever! Sadly we thawed out last night and the snow is gone, but for the past couple of weeks there has been a permanently blanket of white on the ground ⛄️

Despite the cold, Gothenburg feels warm thanks to Christmas lights in every window and on every tree. Sometimes every single window in an office or apartment building is decorated 🎉

Last week’s Lucia concert was incredible, and I also love how Gothenburg’s shop windows have all the glamour of a New York department store whilst not losing the cosines of the city 🌆

If you’re after a quick winter getaway, or are planning an autumn trip for next year, check the link in my bio and read all about my favourite things to do in Gothenburg at this time of year!
🇩🇰 A WEEKEND IN COPENHAGEN 🇩🇰 Last w 🇩🇰 A WEEKEND IN COPENHAGEN 🇩🇰

Last weekend some friends and I hopped on a 5hr Flixbus to Copenhagen to round off the year with one last city break 🏙 The longest leg of the journey was the trip down from Gothenburg to Malmö - from there, it was just a quick crossing of the iconic Øresund bridge before arriving in Copenhagen 🌉

It. Was. Freezing. It seems everywhere it having a cold spell at the moment. But that didn’t take away from the beauty of the city. Highlights for me have to be climbing the tower of the Church of our Saviour, and then checking out the National Museum 🏛

Interestingly, I didn’t think the Christmassy atmosphere was all too special (well I did, because I love Christmas). But I didn’t think it was cosier than Gothenburg 🎄 The Christmas markets, while beautiful, were crowded and would have made buying a stressful experience, had anything caught my eye. I think the city itself is stunning and has a wealth of things to offer, but I wouldn’t go in December purely for the atmosphere ❄️

We stayed in @aohostels Nørrebro and I really liked it - although we barely made use of services such as breakfast or laundry so I couldn’t comment on that. @urbancampercph around the corner also looked awesome; we went for a drink there one evening 🍻

Have you ever visited Copenhagen? What did you think?

In no particular order, some things to get up to in Copenhagen:

🧜‍♀️ Take in the Little Mermaid statue and the views across the water behind her

🏰 Visit Kastellet, Copenhagen’s star-shaped fortress

📍 visit the graves of physicist Niels Bohr and writer Hans Christian Andersen at Assistens Cemetery

⛪️ The spectacular dome of Frederik’s Church

💂‍♀️ Watch the changing of the guards at noon at Amalienborg palace

🌆 For city views, climb the tower of the Church of Our Saviour (amazing even at night!)

🖼 Street art (and more) at Christiania commune

🏛 Visit one of the many museums - the National Museum was like a natural history, art and world museum in one

🎡 Enjoy rides, food, games and festive fun at Tivoli Gardens amusement park

🍰 Simply enjoy wandering through the gorgeous streets and ducking into cafes and bakeries
A few weeks ago we got our first snow in Gothenbur A few weeks ago we got our first snow in Gothenburg! It was very cosy to come out of the cafe and see it all coming down. It cleared up very quickly but hopefully there will be more on the way ⛄️

Gothenburg isn’t very far north - no further than Scotland - and coastal, so the weather is quite moderate. That doesn’t mean it’s not cold!! 🥶 This week has brought heavy clouds and temperatures consistently below freezing, so I’ve got my fingers crossed for another flurry 🌨

Do you love snow? ❄️
🎄 Christmas at Liseberg 🎢 Scandinavia’s 🎄 Christmas at Liseberg 🎢

Scandinavia’s favourite theme park turns into a winter wonderland! Not just rides or market stalls, but a whole Christmas village to keep you entertained 🧸

If you wrap up nice and warm you can enjoy rides, pretty Christmas lights, funfair attractions, arcade games, Santa’s workshop, market stalls and even ice skating! ⛸ not to mention mulled wine and plenty of yummy places to eat 🌭

Christmas at Liseberg starts in early December and continues through the festive season. Prices change slightly depending on when you want to go and whether you want to go on rides or buy entrance only - check Liseberg.se for more info 🎟

If you visited would you try all the rollercoasters, or just enjoy the atmosphere like me?

p.s. bonus points for naming which film the music is from! 🍿 🎞 🚂
